Housed in the historic former Benevolent Society building on Kingsway, owner Alex Toscan has created a space that honours the city's heritage while delivering modern cuts and traditional services. The team specialises in everything from classic flat tops ($40) to buzz cuts ($20), with skin fades attracting a $5 surcharge. Their shave menu runs deep – from quick beard trims ($15) to full cutthroat shaves with hot towels and oils ($40). Walk-ins are welcome for buzz cuts and beard trims, but book ahead for everything else. What sets them apart is their product range. Alongside Uppercut Deluxe styling products ($25 each), they stock their own Kingsway Beard Oil in six scents including Espresso Icecream and Double Glory ($20), plus premium Lone Society beard balms and Firehouse moustache wax handcrafted in Texas. The crew – Alex, Cameron, Lee, Denzel, and Yanni – operate Monday to Friday 9am-6pm, Saturday 10am-2pm. It's proper barbering without the pretence, where traditional skills meet contemporary style in one of Launceston's most characterful buildings.
